Roam The Woods works with your group towards your custom adventure. At Roam, we view this is one of the principals to our slogan " Adventures for all Women." We have had a lot of feed back about bringing spouses, boyfriends and family members on our trips so we are listening to what women want. All we ask is for you to get your group together with dates for your adventure and some ideas of where you are looking to backpack and we do the rest. We can work with 1 week long adventures, as well as multiple week long adventures. On these adventures we stay true to our core fundamentals of teaching our clients the basics of outdoor safety and a lighter side to backpacking.

The Goal: You will learn basic backpacking skills to create a strong foundation for your future backpacking endeavors. You will be carrying all your own gear as well as sharing minor group gear with other participants. Some key skills we will cover are Leave No Trace principles, personal hygiene/health in the woods, camp set-up/take down, backcountry cooking, water treatment, backpacking etiquette, use, adjustment, and care of your personal gear, safety while backpacking, emergency procedure/contacts, and common backcountry hazards. By the beginning of the second week, you will be assuming a larger role in the decision process of the group as well as honing skills learned in the first week of the trip. Possible specialized skills, dependent on the season, route and weather, may include rock scrambling, techniques to ascend and descend steep terrain, and the management of inclement weather.

Equipment: Before your trip, Roam will work meticulously with you on choosing gear that best fits your body as well as does not cost you a second mortgage. We have a saying at Roam, "there is no such thing as right or wrong gear, but there is comfortable and uncomfortable." Your guides want you on the comfortable side. We have done thru-hikes before so we will steer you in the right directions in creating a light weight and realistic pack weight.
