Pine Mountain Overnight Trip Overview:
Price: $175 per Person

Embark on an overnight backpacking adventure on the Pine Mountain Trail in The F.D.R. State Park. Roam the Woods, is a women's specific backpacking company that promotes awareness of women in the wilderness through extended backpacking trips, clinics, and seminars. Travel through changing fall leaves with the beautiful quartzite Pine Mountain as your backdrop. We will provide a basic introduction to backpacking with an emphasis on Leave No Trace Ethics. Bottom Line: a great starting point to get out and empower yourself in the backcountry!

The Goal: There will be a lot of information packed into this overnight adventure, as much as possible in this time frame participants will "learn by doing" complimented by open discussion seminars and activities throughout the clinic. You will walk away with the basic knowledge needed to prepare and start appropriate research for future backpacking endeavors and a clear understanding of Leave No Trace Ethics

Conditioning: You will be hiking with a backpack between 30-35 pounds, over varied terrain with some ascents and descents. Typically, the Pine Mountain Trail is switch backed which allows for gentler climbs. Being in good physical condition will allow you to focus on the information presented and our gorgeous environment. With this being said, we do not expect that you are in top physical shape. For this overnight, if you do a series of daily walks in your neighborhood preceding this clinic you should be in adequate shape to enjoy your trip.

Equipment: Roam provides: all group gear (bear lines, group cookware, stoves, fuel and water filtration systems) and safety equipment (a group first aid kit and SPOT Satellite Messenger device), all on trail meals, any required wilderness and camping permits, professional guides, and experienced instruction on backpacking and wilderness stewardship. If you already have gear this is a great way to learn all about it. If you don't have any gear, but always wanted to try backpacking, we have a limited supply of rental gear. Cost: $175 per person. We will meet at the trailhead the morning of the clinic. You will receive a detailed itinerary upon registration as well as directions to our meeting point. There is a Park entrance fee of $5 which drivers will be reimbursed at the trailhead. If you need help getting to the trail head there may be a chance to car pool with other participants.
