Why don’t you provide gear?

We are trying to get you started down that road of weight consciousness. So the key is to find a comfortable pack that will fit these needs. If we provided all the gear, we may use a different brand and could potentially create an uncomfortable experience. We have put forth a rental program to help our clients keep their overall costs down, but still keep our rental gear within the concepts of the Roam philosophy. Please see our Rentals.

So is your philosophy Ultra Light?

Yes and no. We are shooting for pack weights around 30 to 35 pounds. We’ve found this to be a comfortable weight during our own personal Thru-Hikes. This is also a bench mark weight that you can hit without having to sell internal organs to reach. If you’ve found gear that works for you and you are under our bench mark, good on ya’.

What kind of shape do I need to be in to hike on a typical Roam trip?

We cater to all ability levels, so we offer a wide variety of tours for just that reason. To be honest Rosie and I go back and forth on this. Coming into a trip with some working-out is always a plus, but we know how life schedules are. I feel if you can’t hit the gym 3 days a week, then weekend walks with your pack will suffice. More importantly I would say stretching and getting your body limber pre-hike is worth the time. In our welcome packets for each trip, you will receive some helpful tips to get you ready for our trips.

How old do you need to be?

We take age groups 18 through 65 as long as the trips you chose meets your physical capabilities. We want our trips to have age diversity. We are constantly learning from one another as humans.

How far out should I plan my trip?

We would like you to be on-board for a trip at least 60 days before the trip leaves. This will give you ample time to get your welcome packet and your gear per the gear list we provide. This will also you get you into a mind set to break those hiking boots in, as well as maybe get on a stretching and work out routine.

How large can your groups get?

At Roam we want all our participants to walk away with a quality experience, so we limit group sizes to 8 people.

Do you offer group rates?

We are always working to keep our trips as cost low for our clients. If you have a few friends in mind just contact us and we can work something out.

What is your deposit and cancellation policy?

The price for each trip can be found on the trip description pages. A non-refundable deposit of $250 or 50% of the total trip price (whichever is less) is due upon signing up. If you sign up less than 30 days before the trip departure, the full amount of the trip is due. Balance in full is due 30 days before trip departure. You will also receive a written copy of this schedule in your Roam Welcome Packet.
