GENERAL TRIP INFO:

Roam offers 1 and 2 week backpacking trips, for women, in some of the most magnificent wilderness areas. We focus on creating a small group experience, limiting most expeditions to 8 people. We do ask that you come into the course with an open mind. Working in a group will be challenging at times, here at Roam we embrace all situations and know that it is well worth the effort. We strive to create and maintain a supportive atmosphere and cannot do that without the participant’s honest effort. You will learn basic backpacking skills, hiking skills, outdoor safety and practice leave no trace principles while on your trip. When you are on the trail we will provide three meals a day, supplemented by snacks and snack bars. Daily mileage is typically modest (7-10 miles) and can usually be adjusted based on the group’s needs. We try to have at least one layover/shorter day on our trips so you can relax; giving your body a well-deserved rest and the opportunity to take in the sights. Our trips are suitable for the novice, as well as the more experienced backpacker. We hope that we will see you on one of our trips soon.

The Great Smoky Mountains Backpacking Trip

October 2nd - 10th

This 53 mile backpacking adventure/vacation through the Smoky Mountains is a great trip for both the beginner and seasoned backpacker. Fall will bring milder temperatures to the park, as well as the chance to see some beautiful fall foliage at higher elevations. Come prepared with a sense of adventure and leave your worries behind.

Fall on The Appalachian Trail

October 23rd - 31st

Come backpack 33 miles of the Appalachian Trail with the chance to observe gorgeous fall foliage. Our nights will be spent in tents, shelters, a lodge and a hostel. We look forward to seeing you on the trail.
